DF Single-family home – Raffaele Ripoli Architect

The hard winter and rainy weather conditions in the mountains of central Calabria (Sila) call for a prudent choice. The large steep sheltering and protecting roof is the project’s stepping stone. The family home is characterized by two separate buildings joined by the large asymmetric very steeply pitched roof and by a terraced third element. The project presents a hollow façade characterized by porticoes and loggias articulating a fluid movement between the interior and outdoor parts of the house. The extension of the roof reduces the building’s height creating a large entrance porch topped by a curved wall of stone. Inside the building is divided in a split-level living-dining room with large fireplace and the atrium’s entrance with double volume with curved staircase. The reinforced concrete structure, plaster, stone, wood frames and clay tiles are the main materials used.
