EUROPAN 6 – Raffaele Ripoli Architect

In the reality of northern Europe, the design theme of the residence is appropriate and justifiable in relation to the presence of services and infrastructure. In the Italian reality and especially in the southern coast, the residential theme of the second house is unique and predominant, the absence of services and infrastructure is a tragic fact. Our website fully reflects this situation; therefore the design choice aims to insert a system of missing services, excluding new residential proposals. The village Marinella, hamlet of Castelvetrano (TP), is in a strategic position in relation to the railway system and the first archaeological park of the Greek city of Selinunte with great spectacular effect and strong tourist attraction. The site consists of the ancient village of Marinella overlooking the marina-trawler. The village is bounded to the north and west by a messy construction expansion carried out from the 1960s onwards, consisting largely of residences, second homes many of them abusive. The project interprets the proposed policy framework on the area and is explained in these areas:

  • Environmental and civil services redevelopment. The sandy shoreline will be recovered through the demolition and replacement of the built between the existing road and the sea. The project envisages the demolition of all largely precarious and dilapidated residential buildings on the sea side that create a visual barrier to public perception of the sea. The main objective of the project is to reduce the coastal environmental impact, and at the same time redevelop the coast through a camouflage intervention with equipment and services for the enhancement of the exquisitely public function of the coastal axis . The front on the sea, will be redeveloped by a promenade architectural, a series of multi-level pedestrian paths with frequent accessto the sea. The existing section of the wall in local stone between Ephebe forecourt and Piazzale Empedocle, in its extension becomes the natural-artificial theme separation between the promenade and the sandy shoreline. The functions below the street floor of Via Pigafetta and Marco Polo will be organized with a system of services whose tourist-cultural destinations will be: a guest-hotel, a restaurant with an attached bar and patio, a pub, a market, a auditors, and offices for tourist information. The factory bodies, below the road floor, have a tapesform longitudinal development with a cross section of 10 m; This way you will have a wider beach. These premises can be reached by mechanical means by two mechanical-pedestrian ramps with access from Via Pigafetta and Piazza Efebo. Piazzale Efebo, which maintains its vocation as a natural view of the Mediterranean Sea, will be enhanced by a multipurpose gazebo for markets and shows and by a panoramic staircase facing west towards the evocative view of the archaeological park, freed from the abusive constructions on the sea. The building of the port captaincy, in the continuation of the existing wall in local stone wants to redevelop the main square of the village, Piazza Empedocle, enriched by an iron canopy, for the pitch market. The marina-fishing is reorganized with docks for the mooring of boats. And in the continuity of the urban public space of the promenade, a path dotted with palm trees, equipment, dining areas, which comes to articulate the new straddling the underground port, mythical place between the acropolis and the eastern temples, and the marina Marinella tourist-trawler.
  • Road and parking. The mechanized roadway with the relevant parking lots fully reflects the current P.R.G. forecasts.
  • Rail link archaeological park Selinunte- Castelvetrano- Agrigento-Agrigento and pedestrian paths.
  • Recovery of the village Marinella through a detailed detailed detailed Plan.
  • Public and equipped green. The intervention involves the intensification of public greenery by planting trees.
