The Architecture Studio (Amsterdam 1988-1999) has collaborated for a series of major assignments with the Architect Professor Aldo Rossi, Milan (Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht, Gallery in The Hague)
Special attention is paid to restoration and renovation projects and in particular to problems where the destination of use plays an important role, such as Paradise, a concert hall for pop and classical music that was a pre-existing church or the gallery in The Hague, a reconstruction and partial restoration of the former slaughterhouse now in use as a public pedestrian gallery, or the major renovation and expansion of a cultural center with theater in Winterswjik.
The architectural language is characterized by a rational design approach that combines with images of collective memories and is expressed with materials and forms used clearly. The clarity of the translation of the program into a spatial structure walks parallel with the research towards a strong architectural concept that characterizes the specificity of the request. The architectural features (style, building mass, rhythm, etc.) are fundamental to the design research of the office along with the particularity of the theme produce a renewed result for each project.
